Continued Engagement at COP29

GAF AG were at the UN Climate Conference COP29, which was held in Baku-Azerbaijan, from 11-23 November. This was part of the project activities under the European Space Agency’s-Global Development Assistance Forest Management (GDA Forest Management) initiative which GAF AG is leading. GDA Forest Management has the objective to mainstream Earth Observation (EO) data in the International Financing Institute’s (IFIs) tropical forest programmes. This is considered as part of the EO Knowledge Development in the IFIs and counterpart countries. Using EO technologies to support decision making in reversing deforestation/degradation has been increasing in the past decade. UNFCCC COP which has noted that remote sensing technologies are a useful tool to provide forest information for example for the policy segment reducing emissions from deforestation and degradation (REDD+) and countries are encouraged to use the technology for their national forest monitoring system. In this context GAF was able to present the forest product portfolio from the GDA Forest project in several Side Events at COP29 and to network with several of the counterpart countries the Consortium will be working with including from the Congo Basin, Mozambique and Brazil.
